About Matt Voity
Behind every championship team is a standard—and behind that standard is leadership.
At the core of this approach is Matt Voity, a veteran coach with more than 20 years of experience across professional, junior, and NCAA hockey. Known for his ability to build structure, demand accountability, and develop players at a high level, Voity has earned a reputation as a coach who delivers both immediate results and long-term growth.
His time with the Danbury Hat Tricks organization from 2019 to 2025 marked a defining chapter in his career. Serving in key leadership roles including Assistant Coach, Head Coach, General Manager, and Goaltending Director, Voity helped shape one of the most respected programs in independent professional hockey.
During the 2022–23 season, he played a major role on the bench as an assistant coach in guiding Danbury to an FPHL Championship. That experience—working through the demands of a full season and contributing to a title run—reinforced his ability to prepare teams, make in-game adjustments, and operate effectively in high-pressure environments.
Following that championship season, Voity continued to elevate the program in expanded leadership roles, bringing a detailed, modern approach to team building and performance. His teams are defined by structure, pace, and discipline—playing with a heavy forecheck, tight defensive habits, and the ability to transition quickly.
What truly separates Voity is the culture he builds. He creates team-first environments where players are held to a high standard while being given the tools and support to succeed. His coaching philosophy is rooted in communication, accountability, and daily habits—understanding that consistent, detail-driven work is what ultimately drives winning.
His impact extends well beyond wins and losses. Under his leadership, the Danbury program became a proven development pipeline, advancing players to the NCAA, SPHL, ECHL, and AHL. Goaltenders, in particular, thrived under his guidance earning league recognition and moving on to higher levels but his influence has consistently elevated the entire roster.
From practice design to game execution, every element is intentional. Practices are fast-paced and directly translatable to game situations. Pre-scouts are thorough. Post-game reviews are constructive and focused on development. Players are encouraged to take ownership, think the game, and contribute to the team’s identity.
Prior to his professional coaching career, Voity developed his foundation at the NCAA level with experience at Yale University, American International College, UMass Amherst, and Connecticut College. These opportunities provided insight into elite player development, recruiting, and the demands of advancing student-athletes both academically and athletically.
A graduate of Western Connecticut State University with a degree in Psychology, Voity brings a player-centered, performance-driven mindset to everything he does combining communication, structure, and high-level hockey intelligence.
In today’s game, where development and results must go hand in hand, Matt Voity stands out as a coach who delivers both building teams that compete at a high level today while preparing players for what comes next.
His standard of leadership ensures that every championship built under his watch is founded on structure, pace, and discipline.
